So You Want To Go To A Dance School
|
Do you really want to be a dancer? Have you been told you're a natural dancer and encouraged to hone your skills and that someday you could be a star? Did you know you'll have to get up at 6 am every morning for a long day of dancing and rehearsing the same dance moves over and over again until you can repeat them absolutely perfectly? Still interested? If you are still interested that's great but have you considered how to pay for a top dance college? When you stop for a moment and consider all the expenses, they can be a bit daunting. It's much more than just dance college tuition. You'll need a place to live and food to eat, right? You'll also need to buy course materials and perhaps some special dance equipment. None of that is free so how will you cover those expenses? Perhaps you should reconsider and just go to a regular college and get a business or teaching degree. At least you know you'll be able to get a job in those fields. Dancing jobs are subject to fierce competition. And it's easy to get student loans to cover the costs of an education at a state college or university. Even if you are good enough to be accepted at a dance college, how will you cover the costs when student loans aren't available? If you're heart is really set on becoming a dancer, don't despair. All hope is not lost. Have you heard of the Dance and Drama Awards? These awards provide educational funds especially for students who attend drama and dance colleges. And this isn't some tiny little stipend of a few hundred bucks; these awards cover nearly all the costs of attending a dance college. Since their inception a few years ago, the Dance and Drama Awards have had a huge impact on the careers of literally hundreds of aspiring dance and drama students who worried the high cost of attending a reputable drama or dance college would prevent them from pursuing their dreams. If you already have a drama or dance college in mind, check with college administrators to see if that particular dance college participates in the Dance and Drama Awards. There are also some drama and dance colleges that offer their own grants and other educational assistance programs through public funding and other means. Relatively few colleges fall under this category but a list of them is freely available at most public libraries or by inquiring at the admissions office of most drama and dance colleges. You might want to focus exclusively on this short list of drama and dance colleges to increase the chances of receiving financial aid. |
