At DePaul University in downtown Chicago, Illinois, the highly rated basketball team usually gets most of the press. But this Illinois colleges' reputation and enrollment have been surging as well. The size of the student body has nearly doubled in the past decade. DePaul has transformed itself from a little Illinois college under the tracks to Chicago's version of NYU.

DePaul may be a catholic university but it gives more than lip service to diversity as illustrated by the fact that nearly half the student body is non-catholic. Considering its location in the center of one of the greatest cities in the world, DePaul students have at their doorstep abundant opportunities not available to the students of most colleges and universities in America.

DePaul University consists of two campuses. The Illinois colleges' Lincoln Park campus is where you'll find College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Theater school, the School of Music, and the School of Education. Lincoln Park also happens to be a very tony neighborhood just north of downtown and just south of Wrigley Field, the world famous home of the Chicago Cubs. Lincoln Park is the home of many young urban professionals as well as many trendy shops, parks, theaters, and cafes.

The second DePaul college campus is located in "the loop" which is what locals call downtown Chicago, Illinois. Here you'll find the College of Commerce, the School for New Learning, and the Law School in four high-rise buildings totaling 56 stories. In the late 1980s, DePaul University acquired the historic Blackstone Theater and completely refurbished it. The two campuses are easily accessible in the short twenty minute ride on Chicago's famous elevated train line.

DePaul's name is closely associated with the Illinois colleges and more broadly with Midwestern business and law. The most highly ranked degree programs at DePaul include accounting, theater, music, and information systems.

DePaul offers small classes sizes and senior professors teach most of the classes. To encourage social interaction between students and professors many social activities are planned and students are even provided with a phone book including all the professors' home numbers. Students at this small Illinois college speak highly of the level of education they receive. The faculty includes many are festers who actually practice what they preach in the real world of business which enables them to provide a current and unique perspective.

Traditionally De Paul has been known as more of a commuter school with only a quarter of the students living on campus. Those that do choose to live on campus love the modern residence halls. One of the perks is a guaranteed parking spot which is a major challenge in a thriving metropolis such as Chicago, Illinois.
