The University of California at Los Angeles sits in between the two high profile Los Angeles suburbs of Beverly Hills and Bel Air. But even more appealing is the short drive to Hollywood, Rodeo Drive, the Sunset Strip, and downtown Los Angeles. With all that action in close proximity, you might think it's hard to find time to study.

The campus itself is stunning set on a little over 400 acres and featuring a wide range of architectural styles with Romanesque/Italian Renaissance dominating the scene. The plethora of Japanese and botanical gardens make the campus even more gorgeous. But alas all is not perfect. Most of the buildings were built around the turn of the 19th century when building codes were not concerned with earthquakes. To make campus buildings safer, the University of California at Los Angeles is undergoing a massive seismic reconstruction project which is ongoing and dulls the breathtaking natural beauty of the campus a bit.

There's no shortage of outstanding academic programs at the University of California at Los Angeles. Of particular note are the School of Engineering and Applied Science with the Electrical Engineering department leading the way. As you might expect with a college or university located in Los Angeles in close proximity to Hollywood, the schools of Film, Theater, and Television are first class and students have the opportunity to study in Italy with UCLAs overseas theater program.

On a less glamorous but no less important note, the biological sciences are world class at the University of California at Los Angeles. Research opportunities abound and students have abundant opportunities to work side by side with professors on the latest cutting-edge scientific research.

To better acclimate themselves to campus life, freshman are invited to participate in a three-day orientation which provides counseling, workshops, and a general introduction to the campus and community as well as the opportunity to meet professors and other incoming classmates.
